Before applying for jobs around the island, Ms. Meghan Brady attended college at SUNY Oneonta in upstate New York. Last year, her application was accepted and she took a position as a leave replacement for Ms. Schmalzle. She currently teaches Global History, US History, and AP Human Geography.

“My experience here last year was amazing. They asked me to come back to do another leave replacement and I accepted that in a heartbeat,” said Brady.

Ms. Brady has not been attending many out of school events, but she has plans to attend more in the future, notably Poetry Out Loud and Coffee House.

“When I went to college and I started taking all the education classes and learning more about what it means to be a teacher and how to be a teacher, I realized that I really do love it a lot.”

“I plan on showing up to more events because I want to see [students] performing outside of school.”

Ms. Brady is an artistic person, taking multiple art classes in high school and college, including AP Art and Graphic Design. She almost switched her major to art several times in college, but eventually decided to stick with her passion for social studies.

She was first inspired to go into teaching by a social studies teacher she had in high school, stating that she aims to be a teacher like him.

“I was like, he’s an awesome social studies teacher, and I can be an awesome social studies teacher and teach kids to love history the same way I do,” said Brady.

Her experience in college helped cement her decision.

“When I went to college and I started taking all the education classes and learning more about what it means to be a teacher and how to be a teacher, I realized that I really do love it a lot, said Brady.
